    SUMIFS with months, names, values Multiple Criteria Based on Months and Names

    I'm trying to =sumifs( By different criteria but I'm having trouble.

    Column A are dates 1/3/2016, 1/5/2016, 2/6/2016 and so on for hundreds of lines
    Column B are names "jon" "bob" "bill"
    Column C are values $500, $600, $700

    I want to sum the values in "C" based on month of the year...THEN based on name.
    So Jon, in January, totals $500
    Bill in, February, totals $600

    I can get the values for each of these separately but when I try the SUMIFS it gives me an error.

    Any help is appreciated! Thank you!

    One way is to use the SUMPRODUCT function.

    Use cells to hold the criteria:

    X1 = some month number like 1 (for January)
    X2 = Jon

    =SUMPRODUCT(--(MONTH(A2:A10)=X1),--(B2:B10=X2),C2:C10)

    Another option using start / end dates entered in criteria cells

    =SUMIFS($C$2:$C$8,$A$2:$A$8,">="&$E$2,$A$2:$A$8,"<="&$F$2,$B$2:$B$8,$G$2)

    Where E2 hold start date, F2 holds end date, G2 holds name

    If you want to view all customers withing a date range, consider using a Pivot Table.
