How change value in a chart using dropdown menu

Hi There, I have a list of data in a tab and I have brought forward the list of data I need to form a couple of graphs. I'm looking for a way to change the data thrught the use of dropdown menu to change what the graph represents. E.g graph 1 will show Section 1's Indsutry 1, graph 2 will show Section 1's Industry 2 and so on. But If I changed the dropdown for the graph to show Section 9 information, the graph should update accordingly. I have Pivot Charts, but that doesn't seem to work in my favour. The actual data I have doesnt have even number of Industries per Section, some Sections have 4 Industries, some have 6.

I have attacned an example sheet for reference

Any help will be much obliged.

Let me rephrase the requirement to see if I understand it correctly. You would like to use a drop down list to select a section. Based on the selection of a section, you would like to select an industry from another drop down list. So if you selected Section 1 and Section 1 had 5 industries, the second dropdown list will show only these 5 industries. Then you want to chart Close, Purpose and Interact as a column chart, I suppose?
One spreadsheet to rule them all. One spreadsheet to find them. One spreadsheet to bring them all and at corporate, bind them.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but a sample spreadsheet is more likely to be worked on.

Did you mean, your "data" sheet is a original data bank & you want result as per "graph data" sheet. plz confirm.
If above point is corrected then you use index match formula.

Re: How change value in a chart using dropdown menu

I am using the technique described in this article to do the cascading dropdown list. http://www.utteraccess.com/wiki/inde..._%28Non-VBA%29.

On sheet 1, the pivot tables are used to run the dropdown lists. Select the section in cell G3 and it will limit the list you see in cell G6.

I also make use of what I call a composite index. What makes a record unique in the data table is the combination of Section, Industry and Item (Close, Propose and Interact). I use MATCH to find the matching composite and INDEX to look up the associated value.

Re: How change value in a chart using dropdown menu

    Hi Both,

I basically want to show Close, Interact and propose values on one graph per Industry. the drop down should only show the Sections. Section 1 has has 5 Industries and I would like to see 5 separate graphs. and if from the dropdown I choose Section 4, the graph will update to show section 4's industry. Not sure if that was clear. Data tab is the raw data, but I have used sumifs in the graph data tab to bring out the data i require for the graphs.
