Nested SUMIF function to create a transcript

I am creating a transcript for a specialized school where students are referred from different district and have different requirements. I am trying to sum the credits of sub courses under a criteria. For English courses, there are 4 sub courses that should be counted under "English" and students can take these at different grades. Here is what I have tried and seems to not be successful:

=SUM(IF((G11:H20={"English","English/Language Arts","Composition","American Literature"})+ (G23:H34={"English","English/Language Arts","Composition","American Literature"})+(K11:L20={"English","English/Language Arts","Composition","American Literature"})+(K23:L33={"English","English/Language Arts","Composition","American Literature"})+(G36:H44={"English","English/Language Arts","Composition","American Literature"}), J11:J20+J23:J33,N11:N20,N23:N33,J36:J44))

I hope what I am trying to do makes sense after opening the worksheet.
