    summing while character between text

    2W:462-308:A70
    1L:430-434:A40
    1L:372-408:A28
    2L:366-428:A64


    I have these on cells E2 , need formula to do minus on j2 , expecting 152 on j2 that is 462 minus 308

    Try this (gives 154, the correct answer!!).

    =--(MID(A1,4,3)-MID(A1,8,3))

    That assumes that you have 2 digits : 3 digits - 3 digits blah blah in all you real data.
