We are scheduling nurses for continuing education by putting a target date into a cell that we want to turn red when that date hits a 7 day threshold. Then when the RN completes that module of education, on a date that will be in the adjacent cell; we want that target date cell to revert to standard black text. It looks like a rule will have to be made that depends on the target date cell and its relationship to the completed date cell.

It's going to be easier if we can see the request in context. Would you upload the workbook, or a representative copy and give us some examples of what you expect to see when your dates are entered.

As Richard said, an example showing how your data is set up would make this easier. So, for example, you will have a date in column E (target date). You want this date cell to turn red when it gets within 7 days of that date or when that date is 7 days in the past?
If there is a date in the next column (Col F), then you want the red background to go away.
