    Earliest Date by multiple criteria

    HI All,

Newbie here looking for some help. Basically what i'm looking for is for excel function that will put in column C the earliest date within a calendar year using a date range in column B with reference to multiple repeating values in column A?? If that makes any sense. I provided a sample below. If it takes mutiple functions in columns D & E to get the desired result i'm open to that as well. Hopefull this can be done without VBA. Thanks guys.

This array formula** entered in C2:

    =MIN(IF((A$2:A$11=A2)*(YEAR(B$2:B$11)=YEAR(B2)),B$2:B$11))

** array formulas need to be entered using the key
combination of CTRL,SHIFT,ENTER (not just ENTER).
Hold down both the CTRL key and the SHIFT key
    then hit ENTER.

    Format as Date

    Copy down as needed
