add name to drop down list

I'm sorry if this is listed in the wrong forum. If so, please let me know and I will move. (Not me, the question)

A friend wrote this for me and he is no longer available and I know just the very basics of Excel. I have a workbook that keeps stats for different people. Each person has their own worksheet. There is a "stats" worksheet where I can pull in all the people that I want to compare with the work they have done. My problem is that when I add a new worksheet, I can't get that person's name to be added to the drop down list of names. I know there is a filter applied to this workbook but it seems that is supposed to do this, but I can't seem to get it to work. Any help would be appreciated. I can upload a copy if it would help.

    Thank you.

    1. It would help to see the workbook.

You get better help on your question if you add a small excel file, without confidential information.

Please also add manualy the expected result in your file.

    To Attach a File:

    1. Scroll down to the window below your post Additional Options
    2. In the frame Attach Files you will see the button Manage Attachments
    3. Click the button.
    4. A new window will open titled Manage Attachments - Excel Forum.
    5. Click the Browse... button to locate your file for uploading.
    6. This will open a new window File Upload.
    7. Once you have located the file to upload click the Open button. This window will close.
    8. You are now back in the Manage Attachments - Excel Forum window.
    9. Click the Upload button and wait until the file has uploaded.
    10. Close the window and then click Submit.
Notice my main language is not English.

I appreciate it, if you reply on my solution.

2 things I are willing to help you but,

    1) I think there is confidential information in this file, if so, remove the file from the forum.

    2) You get better help on your question if you add a small excel file, without confidential information.

Just lead us direct to your problem, so we don't have to seek where the data are.

"I can't get that person's name to be added to the drop down list of names" (where are the dropdown list in the file)?

Re: add name to drop down list

There is no confidential information is this workbook. It is merely a record of Nascar Sprint Cup drivers and how they have finished at each track. At the end of the sheet tabs is a "stats" sheet. The name drop down list is in cell A-1. When I add a new sheet for a new driver, I name his sheet and add his info as per the other sheets, but that name does not appear in the drop down list so that I can select him in the data I want to compare.

Re: add name to drop down list

There is no dropdown list in cel A1 of sheet stats.

There is a filter in cell a1.

allgair is in cell a745, but is not show as you don't check the name in the filter.

    a745 =Allgaier!$A$1

So if you add a new sheet you need to add the name in column A (below the existing list) and refer to that sheet => e.g. newsheet!$A$1

Re: add name to drop down list

I again am not very well versed in Excel. When I click on the icon to the right of the word NAME in cell A-1, a list drops down of all the driver's names.
I can then select which drivers info I want to show up at whatever track I select. Allgaier is a hidden sheet (sorry for not saying so) because
he no longer participates in the racing. If I unhide his sheet and rename it to "Ross" for example, select a different track than the one that
has already been selected, then Ross will show in the name list for selection at that and all other tracks. It's just that I can't add a new sheet
and have that name show up in the name list. Don't you just love trying to help a somewhat idiot? I really do appreciate your attempt. The friend that
built this for me told me once that you should be able to add a new sheet, reapply the filter and it would show up in the list.

Yes, the "newsheet" sheet is there. However, it doesn't show up as a choice under Names on tne stats sheet.
