    Excel not recognising Forumla Pattern

    Hi guys

Attached I have a simple spreadsheet which I am creating as a quick reference table for Rate Per Hour x No of Hours

At the top row I have pre-set hourly rates and I am doing a simple rate per hour x number of hours work but when I drag the box down, excel is not recognising the right forumla.

How can I accomplish this, without typing in each cell?

I will also have one for x1.5 and x2.0 rates too.

    Many thanks

    Try this in C3: =C$2*$B3
    Copy across and down

If I understand correctly, you are trying to use "mixed referencing" where you hold rows fixed while varying columns and hold columns fixed while rows are relative. Here's some reference material including an explanation of relative, absolute, and mixed references: https://support.office.com/en-us/art...es_in_formulas

In A1 notation, the $ character is used to hold the desired part of a reference constant. If I understand correctly, it should be as simple as $B3*C$2.
