Need help please with a menu sheet.

Hi all,

Really struggling and need some help please

I am opening a restaurant and need to do food costings for my mneeting with the bank etc

Basically I want a sheet where if I into a cell all the possible ingredients it will add each up accumulate the cost prices of each item into the cell beside it.

For Example
I type "bacon eggs tomato and coffee" into a cell
and in the cell opposite it adds 2 for bacon say 3 for eggs 1 for tomato and 2 for coffee, therefore the value in the cell will be totalled to 8

Is this even possible ?

Sorry, I realise this might be very complicated and I may not have explained it well.

Instead of putting all the ingredients in a single cell put them in individual cells then what you want to do is relatively easy (and a very common task in Excel).

I must admit to being incredibly confused now.

What i am trying to acheive (if its possible) is to type into a cell a menu item and have keywords in that list with values attached.

So if I type into my menu "bacon eggs and coffee" it can go off and find a cost price value for each item, total the respective values and give me the cost price for each dish, entering each ingredient into a different cell wont be at all practical for me. (essentially I want a back engine that takes each dish on the actual menu and calculate the total cost.

That way my food costs are immediately available to me. I did read and look at the instruction videos on your post but I just got bewildered tbh.

Is what I am looking for possible ? If necessary I'll go to someone and pay them to write it, I just dont even know if its doable.

Sorry if I'm missing something, I can use the normal excel stuff but I find this formula building very difficult

Almost anything is possible. It just depends on how much work do you want to put into it.

Trust me, it is orders of magnitude easier to do this the way I suggested.

This formula entered in B2 and copied down:

=VLOOKUP(A2,E$2:F$8,2,0)

This formula entered in C2:

=SUM(B:B)

Instead of typing in the items you could even use a drop down list to select them. I hate typing!
