    Protecting formulas in cells

    Hi there,

I am making tracking sheets for my team and am having issues protecting individual cells with formulas in them. I am able to get as far as protecting them but once I try and sort it acts as if the entire spreadsheet is protected. I made sure to check the appropriate boxes when protecting the cells but it isn't working. I have heard that this is a glitch within Excel 2013 but was wondering if there is any way to protect the formulas on a workbook so they cannot be edited or deleted but also allow the user to sort, format, insert/delete columns etc within the entire workbook.

    Thank you!

What you want is the way it's supposed to work. I haven't heard of any such bug in 2013. Can you attach your file? You can remove the data except the formulas if anything is sensitive.

    Yes, attached.

The date entered in Column T is where the information incorporated with the formula in column W. If I try and protect the formula in column W I am unable to sort 1-5 at all. I need to be able to sort with column W because the formula is pulling from information in a certain row.

I opened your spreadsheet and while column E is protected and I am able to edit anything in all other columns, I am unable to sort

    it can be done!

    select rows A-V
right click format cells go to protection tab and make sure Locked and hidden are not selected.
throw a filter on the top row.
    Select Protect Sheet
Make sure every box is checked.
you should be good to go

    Re: Protecting formulas in cells

It doesn't work for me, I am able to get as far as when I need to sort, as soon as I sort it says "The cell or chart you're trying to change is on a protected sheet" -- I am able to sort if I do NOT include the column with the formula in my sorting, however, it defeats the purpose as the formula reference a specific date from another cell in the row. Once I do that the formula will have the wrong data entered to give the correct outcome.
