Changing shape colours with conditional formatting

    Hi all,
I've been spending a few weeks now teaching myself excel so am still a novice in its use. I've hit a hurdle in my education with regards to conditional formatting shapes and graphs. I want to use numbers in cells to change the colour of shapes, i.e. I have a triangle and if I put a 1 in a table the shape turns green and if I put a 2 it turns red and so on. In a similar fashion I need to do this in a pie or a donut chart as well. I have seen something about VBA but have no idea what that is. Be great if someone could assist or provide me with an example. Any assistance would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: Changing shape colours with conditional formatting

Conditional Formatting can only affect formatting of cells, not shapes.

VBA is Visual Basic for Applications. It is a programming language available in Microsoft Office applications to provide customizations.

What you are asking for is not extremely hard for a programmer but would take some time. If you have no VBA knowledge or other programming background it would be a bit of a leap for you to learn how to solve this particular problem, but it could be done.

The starting point would be for you to provide your file showing the shapes and charts that you want to manage, and give the specific conditions that will change what things to which colors.

If you don't get anybody to jump in to volunteer a solution, you may also want to consider posting your question (with file) in our Commercial Services forum, where you can offer cash for a solution.
