    Unhappy Sum formulae

I have data across five (5) sheets. I will make this as east to explain as I can. I am a beginner. I have numerical values in A1 for five sheets. (Sheet 1, A1; Sheet 2, A1, et cetera). For the sixth sheet, I want it to display a total for all the values in A1 across the sheets. This is where it becomes tricky: Data is entered daiy, so the total will change; albeit, I don't want anything to display in the cell until a numbered is entered; id est, I don't want the cell to contain anything until numbers are entered. Example: If sheets one and two have a 1 in them, Sheet six would display a two. The next day, if I were to add a 1 in Sheet 3, A1, sheet six would display a three. I have several function I'll need to do, but I need to grasp the basics. This is as basic as I can make it. I have searched IF, AND, OR, & SUMIF functions. I'm missing something. ANY help shall be greatly appreciated.
Let me know if I need to elucidate my post. Thanks!

    Re: Sum formulae

Hello, guys. I tried it, but I still receive a value of 0 if nothing has been inputted; similarly, a value won't display unless all cells have been entered. I would like a formula that displays a blank cell that changes as data is entered into other cells. Sheet1 through Sheet5 in cell A1. Sheet A6 would have the total. Example: Two days ago, no values were in A1 of Sheets 1-5; Sheet6, A1 would be blank. Yesterday. I put "4" in A1 of Sheet1. Sheet6, cell A1 would then display a "4". If today I put a "6" in cell A1 of Sheet2, Sheet6 would have "10" in its cell A1. I want to apply it further, but I think if someone can help me with this basic function, I can grasp the concept. Is it possible to attach a file for better elucidation? Thank you for helping an incompetent buffoon.

    Re: Sum formulae

Did you enter the numbers with double quotes or as text ( string aligns left if not aligned manually) ? If so, double quotes or single ones should be removed

Attach a sample workbook. Make sure there is just enough data to demonstrate your need. Include a BEFORE sheet and an AFTER sheet in the workbook if needed to show the process you're trying to complete or automate. Make sure your desired results are shown, mock them up manually if necessary.

    Remember to desensitize the data.

    Re: Sum formulae

Thank you, everybody! I put a SUM formula in an IF formula, and put the SUM itself as the test if true, and "" as the test if false, and it worked. I have one final question, I think; it applies across multiple sheets, too: I have a daily total for the whole year(across two sheets)--January, 1st, 2nd, et cetera--and I would like, if possible to set it up so data cannot be entered for January 2nd until data has been entered for January 1st, and so on and so forth. It would apply for all dates for the whole year. Is that possible, or am I being too ambitious? Thanks in advance. You've been a tremendous help!

As this is an entirely new question, might I suggest you start a new thread ( with appropriate title)? Otherwise, members will not profit from the answers
