First, I did not do an adequate job explaining what I need help with, so, assistance on rewording the title would also be appreciated.

What I need is help setting up a spread sheet that will help me assign football officiating crews to league games and avoid duplication...but it's not that simple.

The crews may or may not be available each of the 10 weeks. So, I'd like the sheet to follow this kind of process:

1. Check to see if first crew is open on that date. (Note: I am fine with always starting with the first listed crew or some other method)
2. Check to see if they have had one of those two teams yet.
3. If #1 yes, and #2 no, ASSIGN. If not, go to next crew.
4. Continue until all games assigned.

Note: I may have to assign a crew to a second game based upon availability, etc. I am okay with the sheet leaving these instances blank and manually inputting...in fact, I would prefer that method.

I am somewhat comfortable with excel formulae. If you know of a similar file out there that I could adapt, that would be great. Just struggling with the set up, etc. What is really throwing me is the fact that each game will have 2 participants (teams) that must be checked for repeating.

The particulars:

a. 10 team conference with 9 weeks of games.
b. Each team will play each other once.
c. Contests will always be on the same night and will cover 9 consecutive weeks, so there will be a total of 45 games to assign (5 games x 9 weeks)
d. I will be provided the schedule by the conference and will input that manually.
e. I will be give the crews' schedule of availability. For example, crew #1 is open week #2, 7, and 6.
f. I could have up to 20 crews from which to assign.

Thanks in advance for your help.
