    Cell will not take formula

    Hi
I have a workbook and I had the following formula in a cell ='v.1 Schedule with Leads'!J3 this would return whatever was in cell J3 on the worksheet v.1 Schedule with Leads. I created another worksheet named Schedule with Leads, but when I correct the formula to go to the new sheet instead of what is in cell J3 in workbook Schedule with Leads the cell just displays the formula.

    Thanks
    Ralph

Make sure the cell with the formula is formatted as General (or anything other than text) BEFORE you edit it.

Thank you, it was the BEFORE you edit it that tripped me up.

Yup, an important rule of Excel to know.
Changing the format of a cell does NOT actually change the value contained in the cell.
It only changes the appearance of that value.

Suspect the cell is formatted as Text. Change it to General.
