VLOOKUP function not displaying results

I have a workbook with 2 worksheets - sheet 1 is 10,229 rows by 217 columns; sheet 2 is 3,676 rows by 2 columns.

Sheet 2 contains an alphabetically sorted list of names and an ID number for each unique name. I've given the data in sheet 2 a named entity called (oddly enough) Names.

Sheet 1 contains an unsorted list of names that the vlookup function is associate an ID number with each name. My use of the function is correct syntactically; I'm just not seeing the values, only the equation.

Any thoughts on how to correct this. I can't upload the workbook as it's over 7MB in size.

Thanks folks - the column I was performing the equation in was indeed a text column. As soon as I changed the format to General, it worked like a champ. Problem solved! Thanks
