Move Monthly Data (January, February) into New Columns

    Hello,

I am looking for a simple solution to a problem I have been having. I work with performance data, and I often have a situation where I receive data in a monthly format (January Sales, February Sales). The issue is that we have people starting at different times of the year, so some people might start in January, and some people might start in June. This poses a difficult for some of my analyses, so what I would like to do is to transfer this data into Month 1, Month 2, Month 3, etc. columns.

I know that probably is not very clear, so I am attaching an image. You can see that some people start in January, February, March, April, May, June. During this time, people have sales data for each month after they start (unless they turnover). What I would like to do is move a person's first month of data into the Month 1 column, no matter when that person's first month is.

I am trying to avoid very very complex formulas, as we often have to deal with data like this. Ideally, I would like to create a template, where I can take 36 months of data (January 2012 - December 2015, for instance), paste it into an Excel template, and have the template generate Month 1, Month 2, Month 3, etc.

Thank you to anyone who is able to provide help!

    Mike

Can you please post a sample file showing expected outcomes as often can't view images (nor obviously work with them.)

    Thank you.

Check out such array formula for H2:
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

and copy right and down. See sample attached.

...confirmed by pressing CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER to activate the array, not just ENTER. You will know the array is active when you see curly braces { } appear around your formula. If you do not CTRL+SHIFT+ENTER you will get an error or a clearly incorrect answer. Press F2 on that cell and try again.

Just in case - formula applied to your sample file.

If that takes care of your original question, please select Thread Tools from the menu link above and mark this thread as SOLVED. Thanks.

Re: Move Monthly Data (January, February) into New Columns

Actually, I am still struggling getting the formula to work correctly. I am trying to create the template that I referenced, and the array formula seems to be working incorrectly (at least how I have it written). Would you be able to tell me what I am doing wrong?

Ideally, I will be able to create this template so that I can just drop in up to 36 months of data and it will convert the data into "Month 1, Month 2" etc, for me.

    Thanks!

Columns left to data has to be taken into account, so in AP2:
    Formula: copy to clipboard
Please Login or Register to view this content.

    (of course again array formula)
