Wrap Text not working in merged cell using a formula

    Hi,

I am having trouble getting merged cells to wrap text when a formula is used to retrieve the data.

I have uploaded an example. What I would like is for cells B8 and B14 in the "Business Plan" worksheet to resize when I select an option from D2. So rows 8 and 14 should be different heights depending on which business plan I select in D2. At the moment no matter what I select B8 and B14 stay the same height.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks,
    Jennsy

Text wrapping is working just fine. What Excel won't do is automatically resize it based on how much text is in there. If you want it to be automatic it has to be done by macro, and that method will only be approximate if you use a proportional font (which is most of them).

    Hi Jennsy,

What you want is probably not possible unless you use VBA.

The following article describes how to do what you want using VBA: http://blog.contextures.com/archives...ll-row-height/

Thanks Jeff and Lewis, I'll take a look at the VBA article. Appreciate your responses.

By the way, we usually advise against using merged cells for various reasons. Is there any way to meet your goals without merged cells?

    Hi 6StringJazzer,

Unfortunately yes as the real world spreadsheet I am trying to build has tables in that are 6 columns wide, and I need free text to span the same width.

    Thanks,
    Jennsy
