Use Countifs on a closed workbook

    Hi,

I have a spreadsheet that shows daily stats for a date. I would like it to fill in automatically to save staff having to waste their time at the end of each day. One cell needs to check the date (in A1) matches and then check the serial number, for example if the first two letters are IR or AC and then count the ones that match both.

I assume this will need to be done as SUMPRODUCT but can't find a way to make the formula check just the first 2 letters of a cell.

I assume it is similar to countif where you use the criteria as "IR*"

Please Login or Register to view this content.
That is the code I have tried and it just returns - even whenthe criteria is met.

    Thanks in advance

    Danny

Looking closer at the formula, if I change the * to a + it gives a figure of 1041 when it should just be 1. I am not sure where it is wrong though?
