AUTOSUM wil not add, returns zero

I want to use AUTOSUM in page Sales with data from page Apr, however that doesnt work. I then tried using AUTOSUM in the page Apr and that didnt work (blank cell). As a last resort I tried adding just 2 cells with AUTOSUM and it returned a zero. AUTOSUM is in J121

    See image.

Any ideas what is wrong or what I could be doing wrong.

    Thanks.

Re: AUTOSUM wil not add, returns zero

Maybe cells J119:J120 are formatted as text? Do these cell show an apostrophe in the formula bar?
    Cheers!

    Attached.
Pages involved are Sales and Apr.
Ideally I want to SUM Apr! J2:J150 and K2:K150 in sheet Sales at D28 and D29.

The image from my last post is from sheet Apr!J119

I don't know what error checking options you have active (I keep most of the error checking options active). The first thing I noticed when I opened your spreadsheet is the little green triangle next to the numbers in J and K. The error is the common "Number stored as text". The sum function ignores text values (even if those text values could be interpreted as numbers).

Where are these numbers coming from? If you have any control over where these numbers are coming from, change the import step to force these values to numbers. You can also put 1 in a cell, then copy -> paste special -> multiply. When Excel attempts the multiplication, it will convert those text strings to numbers (if possible). You can also use the =VALUE() worksheet function.

This is a common error, and you can search the forum for other strategies for dealing with numbers stored as text.

Yep, the cells are formatted as text. Though Excel tells you different.
Just double-click in the cells containing the numbers and hit enter.
