Display colour based on info in another column

    Hi,

I have created a tracking and monitoring workbook for my school.

Within the sheet titled 'Add or Remove Pupil' I have a colour spectrum displayed down column A. Children that are in Nursery are matched to light blue, children in P1 are matched to blue and so on. However I just coloured the cells rather than set up any formulas- this is causing problems when i add new names to my register.

How can I use conditional formatting (i think) so that it colours the cells in column A based on the stage each child is at which is displayed in column D? I know how to use conditional formatting to colour cells in column D easy enough but don't know how to use conditional formatting to colour cells based on info in other cells on that row? Or do I just make it so that it copies the info in column D to Column A but somehow doesnt display the text- conditional formatting could then be used for column A?

    Sorry not very well explained!

    Thanks,
KevinGPS Tracking and Monitoring no namesc.xlsm

    Hi,

see attached based file based on your requirement. If you change value from P1 to P2 and so on, it will change the colour automatically.

    Cheers
