If A value = Subtotal, add sum value of correlating value in E column.

So I have a spreadsheet where there are multiple cells at varying rows in A column where the value is 'Subtotal'.

In any time where the value is subtotal in A, I want it to add the value in the correlating row in the E column. Basically, I want a sum of all the subtotals in a single cell, which will add the values of any new subtotals added in the future.

    Have you tried using SUMIF?

I think that would work... How do I specify the criteria being =? So like...

    =SUMIF(D1:D5000,DX=Subtotal,E1:E5000)

I tried that. It's returning 0. Not sure why...

The subtotal total is a formula itself of the columns above - could that be the cause?

Suggest that you post a sample workbook. A formula should not be a problem.

Figured it out. Had to do with where the Subtotal value was. Thanks.
