    How many combinations??

    Hi there -

    How do I find out how many combinations i can have with the following in EXCEL..

    I need to know how many combinations a person can have with choosing 4 classes ( they can choose 1, 2, 3 or 4 ) but cannot overlap..

    ex:

    Math, English, Science, History ( 1 combination)
    Math, English (2nd)
    Science, English, History (3rd)
    Math, English, Science (4th)

    So on...
    ... english, math ( does not count as a combination) - since it already exist.

    If there are four classes, then there are 2^4 = 16 combinations, from choosing none to choosing all.

    Because each set member (class) is either included or not in the combination. That's two possibilities.
