What is it that you are trying to do? Something like the degrees symbol?

You can't superscript or subscript in formatting.

You could use the superscript 2 and 3 characters: ² and ³
Entia non sunt multiplicanda sine necessitate

    Re: Custom Format Superscript

    Hi!

I would just need to use the superscript characters 2 3 and 4 , but I cannot find a way to do it in the custom formats. Does anyone know how?

I need to put 2, 3 and 4 in superscript because I am measuring an area, a volume and another thing.

I am using the custom format in order to have the value and the units in the same cell, and making that cell usable as an input for another formula

    Thanks everyone

    Re: Custom Format Superscript

The only way I have found to mix regular font with superscript is with a text literal (not even a text string that is the result of a formula).

With a text literal ("100 cm3"), you can press F2, select the 3, Home group -> font -> and tell it to superscript the 3 -> enter until you have finished editing the cell.

If your chosen font has specific superscripted characters (like the 2 alt-0178 and 3 alt-0179 that shg mentioned), then you can use those characters in a number format code or as part of a text formula. Since most fonts seem limited to those two superscripted numbers, this will be a limited solution.

After years of trying to think of clever ways to accomplish what you describe, I have decided that there really isn't a good way to get the exact effect you want in Excel. Should someone prove me wrong, I will be interested to see what they suggest.

    A possibility...

John Walkenbach has a free add-in that will apply super/subscript formatting. Don't know if it'll work in Excel 2013 but I used to have it and used it in Excel 2002.

50% of the VBA code is creating the TAB menu. It works as a macro but I did not use this as xla

Jwalk xla doing the same like:

type any text in a cell
    select character
    open Format Cells window
    select superscript/subscript
    ok

Having just tried it, it seems to have the same limitation as other solutions. It works great for text literals, but will not work for the result of a formula.
