    Vlookup from url

    Good Day to all,

I need to know if it's possible to vlookup a value from a url (i.e. if I uploaded the lookup table onto a website).
If not, how else can i vlookup from a source workbook that is in another computer. Appreciate any help. Thanks in advance.

    Re: Vlookup from url

Just keep the workbook in Shared Drive / Shared Folder / Your Local Server and try...

Thanks for the suggestion Sixthsense, but unfortunately this is a workplace issue and the shared drive does not extend to the people whom I need to send the master workbook to. As such I need to source for another method. Thanks again.

Say i were to send them the source workbook along with the master workbook, would they have to save the source file under the same name in the exact folder in the same drive as I did in my computer?

Why don't you include the Source workbook sheets in that workbook itself.

You can keep that worksheet as hidden.

    Re: Vlookup from url

The thing is this source workbook would be updated frequently, its contents might change. So I cant really rely on the end users to do the manual transferring of the new data into the the main workbook itself.

So if were to send them a new version of source file each time, isit possible for them to just save over the existing source file; will excel then recognize this new source file that has the same name.
Or would they have to copy and paste the data from the new source file to the new one? Would that work as well? Thanks.

Hey sixthsense, thanks for the suggestions, just trying to find the least troublesome solutions for the end users. i've got more questions.

any idea why vlookup can sometimes update from a closed workbook but sometimes it cant? i.e. when i make changes to the lookup_value, it shows a #NA on the resultant cell, but i can just revert this change and get back the result. but sometimes it shows a #ref, and there's no reverting the situation. both situations are with the source workbook closed.
