Matching 2 columns and output result in third column

    hi,

I have two columns ( B & G) with title called 'device name'. Column B will have hundreds of entries but Column G will have just a limited number i.e. Column G will just be a subset of B. The text in both will be the same.

What I want to do is:

    If
Any cell in columns C, D or E is in red
    Then
look at the corresponding cell in column B and see if there is a match to any cell in column G
    If
    There is a match
    Then
Output 'pay' in column F in the corresponding row
    Else
Output 'no pay' in column F in the corresponding row
    Else
    Do nothing
    End

    I hope this is clear.
    thanks,

now I just have to figure out how to attach my sample file.

As far as I know, there are no formula methods available to determine the formatting of a cell. Is it set by conditional formatting, or some specific rule to determine which cells to format red?
You should hit F5, because chances are I've edited this post at least 5 times.

    thanks speshul.

how about this - I have a formula for each of the three columns on how they get to be highlighted in red.

for column C - any value greater than or equal to 0.1 goes red
for column D - any value greater than or equal to 15.0 goes red
for column E - any value greater than or equal to 5.0 goes red.

    thanks

I don't see a question in there, you say you have a formula already?

Also, when posting a new question it is best to start a new thread specific to the new question, so you get people specialized in the area you need help with.

    hi speshful,

sorry, I was not clear. my reply was to your question ie. Is it set by conditional formatting, or some specific rule to determine which cells to format red?

the formula to determine the colour (red) is what I mentioned above - so based on that is it possible to do what I asked in my first post?
    thanks
