Balance Lookup Using the Year Part of a Date

    Hi All and Happy Holidays!

I have a problem I need some help with.

What I have in my attachment is 3 sheets:

    Calendar
    Balances
    Selected

On the Calendar sheet I want to select a year from list.
This year is used to select only the January balance for that year, on the Balances sheet,
and place this balance in the box on the Selected sheet.

Regardless of the number of 12 month years, whatever year enter on Calendar sheet, only the January balance should be selected a placed in box.

    I really appreciate any help

    In A4 type

    =VLOOKUP(DATE(Calendar!B3,1,1),Balance,2,0)

    Thanks Alan,

Just one question. What is it about the code that make it select only January?

Re: Balance Lookup Using the Year Part of a Date

In the vlookup, I inserted the Date function which employs the syntax

=Date(year, month, day) and I inserted 1 for the month which is January.
