hi can anyone help I'm looking for a formula that can count how many cells in a column (say column A1:A20) that contain a certain cell colour (light green in my case).
EXAMPLE
if I only had three cells coloured light green between A1:A20 it would return a value of 3
but then if i was to change another cell that had no fill before to light green it would change the value to 4 straight away .

Color is a horrible kind of "data". Certainly you're coloring those cells green for a reason. If those reasons can be formulated into a cell on the same row, then several things can happen:
1) You won't have to color cells manually, conditional formatting can do it for you
2) You can adapt the formula later and all the cells colored by referencing that formula column will update without you having to manually recolor all the cells
3) All the COUNTIF and COUNTIFS formulas will work out of the gate.
Remember to desensitize the data in your sample workbook.
