index lookup problem against 2 criteria (match)

    Hey guys.

I upgraded from Excel 2003 to 2013 Pro and I used this exact code to do my lookup and it worked.

Please Login or Register to view this content.
Now it gives me all sorts of problems.

Please have a look at the attached screen shot.

If the screen shot could not be viewed the error states:

We found a problem with this formula. Try clicking Insert Function on the Formulas tab to fix it...........

Not trying to type a formula?
When the first character is an equal (=) or minus (-) sign, Excel thinks it's a formula:

you type: =1+1, cell shows: 2
To get around this, type an apostrophe (') first:
you type: '=1+1, cell shows: =1+1

Hope you guys can help me.

    Thank you.

i just recreated that workbook and it works fine
have you accidently saved your trend lookup workbook as .xlsx instead of xls?
as for the formula itself it shouldn't matter which version of excel you use

    Hi martindwilson

I have just checked and they are both saved as .xls and it is saved as 97 - 3003 workbook.

I dont understand why this formula just wont work as I have used it hundreds of times in my old 2003 version.

Re: index lookup problem against 2 criteria (match)

has your list separator got changed in the version of 2013 you installed?
    eg from comma to semicolon?
The list separator in Windows - Regional Settings does not match what is being typed for the Excel formula.
The 'Use system separators' option is set in Excel Advanced Options and does not match what is being typed for the Excel formula.

    Possible....

I have checked windows 8 and my list separator is ; I tried to find the list separator in excel 2013 pro advanced options but I find nothing called list seperator. The only thing I find that looks like it could have something to do with it is the use systems separator's and that option has a tick in it. Tried it without the tick and still the same error.

what is your decimal separator? it cant be the same as list separator
so if your decimal separator is comma i think the list separator reverts to semicolon
