Question How can I display information from a formatted table dependent on drop down menu selection

    Hey guys,

I am new to the forum and was hoping to get any information to help me create an awesome excel spreadsheet.

My goal is to display certain information relating to an item selected from a drop down menu that has already been formatted into a table on another page (tab). I have tried my best to breakdown the information and stage i would like to display below:

    1) Select Section - This part has already been completed combining the 'T' formula to copy the text heading from each tab into a list of headings, where the data validation tool is used to create the actual drop down menu.

    2) Depending on what is selected in the 'Select Section Stage' i would like another drop down menu to display options from one of the columns known as 'Item Description' within the formatted table of the corresponding section (new page/tab for each section)

    3) Depending on what is selected in the Item description stage another drop down menu will show a more precise item decription based on another column within the table

    4) Finally the required instructions for the selection will be displayed, which are also in the formatted table located in 3 different columns.

    Hope that is somewhat clear.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can offer some insight.

    Cheers

    Hi, welcome to the forum

Sounds like you need dependant data-validation, see if the attached will get you started in the right direction.

Apart from that, To best describe or illustrate your problem you would be better off attaching a dummy workbook. The workbook should contain the same structure and some dummy data of the same type as the type you have in your real workbook - so, if a cell contains numbers & letters in this format abc-123 then that should be reflected in the dummy workbook.

To attach a file to your post,
click advanced (next to quick post),
scroll down until you see "manage file",
click that and select "add files" (top right corner).
click "select files" find your file, click "open" click "upload" click 'done" bottom right. click "submit reply"

Once the upload is completed the file name will appear below the input boxes in this window.
You can then close the window to return to the new post screen.

Thanks for the reply, I guess that example works with the layout of data of that sheet. My data is set out a lot differently which makes it a bit of a problem and since i have 100+ pages of this i would prefer if i didnt have to restructure my data.

I have attached an example File which shows only first page and 1 page example.

    Cheers

I would say that if you have 100+ sheets, then you already need to restructure your data, but be that as it may.

Perhaps you could include more data in your sample, along with some sample answers?

There aren't 100+ sheets, there is information extracted from 100+ physical sheets of data. Where each section has been combined into 1 sheet.

The example shows 1 section and the all the info relating to that 1 section. A sample answer is indicated by the ranges beneath the first page headings.
