Question How Can I: Conditionally Format for date Older than Jan 1st 2014?

    Hello everyone.

I've found numerous tutorials on how to format for dates older than a number of days, but I only want to show for dates older than Jan 1st 2014. I worked up a failure so I am turning to the community for some support.

My sheet has a list of dates in a column.
Any date that is older than 01/01/2014 should be red.

    That's it!

    Thanks!

Hmm, it should be a fairly normal use of conditional formatting that gets you there. See my attached file.

Clearly you've made it work, but I don't understand how you did it. Can you explain? What is 41640?

I just made up a couple dates in a column, went over to conditional formatting; said I want my highlight cell rules to be "Less than" and put in "Less than 1/1/2014." Everything else, including the color selection, was all default in the wizard.

If you're really hard-pressed, you can use the Format Painter tool to "paint" from my workbook into your own.

Got it: 41640 is the number-formatted version of 1/1/2014.
    Thanks Yogi52o
