    Thumbs up Validation with vlookup

    Hi to everyone,

Anybody knows how 2 make a validation with a vlookup as formula?

I have 2 lists in 2 columns (A & B). In column A I have numbers and in B names, and what I want is something like if in C1 I type 1 it will appear the name that is in front of that number in the list.

    Expl:
    A.....B.............C
1...Joe.........Type 2 but will appear Carol
    2...Carol

    Thk u for any help

    Re: Validation with vlookup

You cannot have both a manual entry and a formula. The only way to do what you are asking (within the same cell) is by using VBA.

    Re: Validation with vlookup

    Ace_XL,

Thk u for your reply but that page not help me anyway because it is not what I want: what I want is work with only 1 cell - not with 2 or 3.
    Thk u anyway.

    ChemistB,

I know - I mean, I can understand - that I "cannot have both a manual entry and a formula" but I think is not the case .cause I don.t use any formula in the cell, only in the validation> formula.

Anyway, thk u for ur reply.

    Re: Validation with vlookup

You can use equations in Data Validation to determine what you can manually enter (i.e. List1 or List2) but in the end, it's a manual entry. If you want to Choose "1" and return "Carol" you'll need VBA.
