Sorting a Spreadsheet with multiple columns for one person

    Hi All,

I am really sorry if this has been asked but I am not a excel wizz and don't understand half the jumbo. Also I accidently wrote multiple columns but I meant rows.

I am looking to find a quicker way to organise and create the following spread sheet. It has a persons unique number, the different accommodation they have had and whether it has been booked, cancelled etc. The issue is that the column for address is not necessarily in the same row as what is current (don't ask me why we use a database we cannot edit). The problem is normal sorting does not work as Excel does not recognise that all of the rows below each student belongs to the one above. I think excel sorts them thinking that each row belongs to the one below.

    It looks like this...

So you can see that I try and sort first by student number and then by booked status so the booked ones are in line with the student number (whichever is most current as I will add a date sorting rule also) but they just all go to the bottom.

Any help would be very much appreciated!

    Many thanks,

To sort a table like this, you have to duplicate the information for your students on each and every row. If this is how your database give you the data, we can program a macro that will fill in the blank cells so you can sort the table.
Is this something that can work for you? If so, we'll need a workbook with your actual structure to program our macro.
