Formula for counting data on sheet 1 into sheet 2

Hi Folks
I have attached an EXCEL 2010 file to the post.
On sheet 1 I have a list of departments, names of emplyees and length of service indicated by the letter 'X'

On sheet 2, I would like to be able to count the 'X''s based on the department
Eg 2 people with 5yrs in Admin

Is there a COUNTIF or SUMIF formula I could use?
I am not getting this
