    countif across workbooks

    Hello

    I got this formulae on here which helps identify duplications.

    however it won`t work if the target workbook is closed

    is there any alternatives Please ?
    PHP Code: 
    IF(COUNTIF('[Master report test.xls]Sheet1'!$E:$E,D17)>0,"Possible Duplicate","ok ") 
    ?
