    Formula on Blanks

    Ok so I use excel to track some information just like most of people. My problem is the formula Im using I want it to be for the whole column, but the problem is on the blank cells I get a random number. Here is the formula I use:

    =(TODAY()-J2)

    J2 down has the date of the application for a loan, I have this formula in column L and on the ones I have not added information on but I will add as I get more loans shows a number like 41279, on the ones with information shows up the number of days since application just fine, only the blank or empty cells is showing that random number and I dont want to show anything if blank or empty I just want it to leave it empty or blank. Please help, and if you please explain as if you were explaining it to someone who just knows one formula and nothing else about excel please as Ive seen solution for what seems to be my problem on other forums but I can understand it. I saw =if formula that should solve the problem however, since im already using a formula im not sure how to use both formulas.

    Thank you.

    Re: Formula on Blanks

    Ok guys now I got something that may be alittle more complicated but may not be. So for my loans we have them by stages from 0 to 5. When loans are in stage 2 for more than 15 days i need excel to mark. Stating I have the stage where the loan is in cell I2, is there a way that I can have another cell let say O2 to put the date that cell went to 2? so that way I can have another cell that would substract todays date minus that date and create a rule than when the loan is =>15 it marks it red. Thanks for any help guys.
