    Formula - matrix lookup

    Hi,

Like you can guess I have problem with excel. Tried many different solutions, but none were perfect...

    Please look at attached file

    My task:

In sheet "Data" I have columns with ID (lets say company ID), employee name but its not important, two columns with points (each ID needs to have two different point values), and three columns with activity name. Each activity is type 1 or type 2 (so it will have proper point value from column 3 and 4).

In "report" sheet, in column D I want to have proper point value from "data" sheet. So it's basically matrix lookup, because formula should:

Take ID (column B), check which activity type is typed in column A and return proper point value.

Right now I have #N/A error, but in different versions I'm getting some #VALUE errors also.

    So:

    1. How to do it? I managed to write formula which is working... sometimes. I really don't have idea why it is working in row 2 but not in row 3... formatting?

    2. Is there better formula? Mine is quite complicated and probably not so effective.

For any advice I will be very grateful.

    Re: Formula - matrix lookup

    In D2

    =INDEX(Data!$F$2:$J$4,MATCH(B2,Data!$A$2:$A$4,0),MATCH(A2,Data!$E$1:$I$1,0))

    Copy down
    Life's a spreadsheet, Excel!
