false values returned when I copy formulae from one cell to another

Please see attachment over the last 2 days I cannot copy a formula from one cell to another reliably.
On my sample value in cell c23 should be 1277 but shows as 6379, this is the value returned in cell B23 . the formula was copied from B23 to C23
cell c3 formula was copied to c5 the value should be 101 but it displays as 200 (value in C3)

This is not just happening in a single spreadsheet but on all excel files new and old.

I would appreciate any guidance on finding a fix

Make sure that your calculation settings are set to 'Automatic'

    File -- Options -- Formulas -- Workbook Calculation -- Automatic -- ok

I think your problem is that you have calculation set to manual. If you recalculate the correct values will be displayed.

Try changing the calculation setting to automatic in the options.

Re: false values returned when I copy formulae from one cell to another

Brian, Excel formula change reference appropriately when you copy it from one cell to another. For example, if the formula in B3 is "=A3" and you copy paste the formula to C3, the formula changes from "=A3" to "=B3". If you do not want them to change you need to make the rows or columns constant with a dollar symbol $.
In the above example if you don't want the formula to change from "=A3" to "=B3", you need to mention the formula as "=$A$3". This way we can tell excel that the row 3 and column A are constant and should not change when we copy paste to a different cell. If you want either of the the column or row reference to change, you may use "=A$3" (constant 3rd row) or "=$A3" (Constant A column).
