    Conditional VLOOKUP Formula

    I have a VLOOKUP problem...........

    This formula doesn't work

    =IF(B8<>"OVERHEAD","0","VLOOKUP(A2,Sheet1!A2:F1361,6")

Basically - if cell B8<>OVERHEAD - I want "0" and if B8="OVERHEAD" then perform the VLOOKUP

First part of formula works - I get zero 0 for non OVERHEAD values - however if the cell is "OVERHEAD" - formula returns VLOOKUP(A2,Sheet1!A2:F1361,6

How do I get this thing to work?

    Thanks in advance..........

    Re: Conditional VLOOKUP Formula

    Maybe like this

    =IF(B8<>"OVERHEAD","0","VLOOKUP(A2,Sheet1!$A$2:$F$1361,6,0)

    Re: Conditional VLOOKUP Formula

    Didn't work - I get error message.............

Shouldn't there be another "...............you have "VLOOKUP(A2,Sheet1!$A$2:$F$1361,6,0) but no close " - where would the " go? I tried several places - no luck........

    Re: Conditional VLOOKUP Formula

    I got it.............thanks..........

    =IF(B2<>"OVERHEAD","",VLOOKUP(A2,Sheet1!$A$2:$F$1361,6))

This worked - it put a blank if cell <> OVERHEAD and performed VLOOKUP if it did.........

Thanks AlKey - you got me started in right direction........I fixed by trial and error......

    Re: Conditional VLOOKUP Formula

Please note that using VLOOKUP the way you did will only return an approximate match. For the exact results you need to use FALSE (or simply 0)
