Combination of bar and line chart with horizontal time axis

    Hi,
    Please see my file attached.
I'm failing to obtain the following:
The content of B8 should be displayed on top of the first blue bar.
The content of B9 should be displayed on top of the first orange bar.
The content of B10 should be displayed on top of the first grey bar.
The contents of B8, B9 and B10 should form a line chart.
Other than that, everything is good as it is.
    Thanks.

You need to add secondary horizontal axis and extend the range used as data seres in order to align data points with columns.

Or use xy-scatter chart type instead of Line and specify both x and y values.

Thanks Andy, that looks exactly like what I planned.
Now I've added a secondary horizontal axis and extended the range - yet the graph is screwed.
    What am I missing?

You would need to alter the series length to get the alignment correct for the new number of columns in a category.

As suggested use xy-scatter for more accurate control over positioning

Re: Combination of bar and line chart with horizontal time axis

Quite happy with the result right now.
However, I've got one concern for the future:
The weight entries (b14-b19 etc) are not "hard-locked" to the daily sets (b4-b9 etc). Instead, I work with an approximating number (b21-b26 etc). Is there a way to hard-lock the weight to the daily sets?
In other words, I guess I'm looking for a way to reduce the graph to a single horizontal axis while maintaining the current functionality.

You can use formula to calculate positions. Although you will need to fixed the secondary horizontal axis.

You can not avoid using the secondary horizontal axis as there appears to be a bug that restricts the xy-scatter series to have the maximum number of points as categories on the primary horizontal axis.
