Expanding the data range for a pivot table

I am trying to expand the data range to add some additional information to an existing Pivot Table and every time I change the range in the "Change Pivot Table Data Source" dialog box and click OK I get an "Excel has quit working" message. What do I look for that may be the cause?

Hi Johnk39,

To change the source data for the Pivot table, put the Cursor in any Cell inside the Pivot table, go to 'Options' tab >> 'Change data Source'.

You can redefine the area by changing the Range shown or click on the applet & rehghlight the new range.

Make sure there are no Blank field headings inside the Pivot.

Last resort is to delete & recreate the Pivot table.

I was following the steps you outlined and tried both the manual edit of the expanded range as well as the highlighting method and both would fail. At bedtime last night I managed to work around it by expanding the range one column at a time. I've had many years experience with Pivot Tables and this one has me stumped. Thanks again for your response.
