2 y axes on the left, each in different units, eg one in percent, the other in amount

    hi,
i am making a stock price charting dashboard. the idea is that the user can change stock all the time, and compare TWO different stocks on the 1 chart.
so the prices of both could be completely different.

i want to see both the price AND the "Normalised Price" of stock 1 on the left axis , and the price AND the "Normalised Price" of stock 2 on the right axis ; 'normalised' being simply stock price as a % of it's value at a given time point (eg today).

    any ideas appreciated!

    cheers

Since it sounds like you are planning to use what amounts to 4 axes, you will almost certainly end up with some variation of Jon Peltier's Aribitrary axis technique: http://peltiertech.com/Excel/Charts/ArbitraryAxis.html for a couple of those "axes" (or maybe something completely different, like a panel chart, if you are open to such suggestions).

    1) 1st step, as with a lot of chart questions, get all the appropriate values calculated in the spreadsheet for the two main data series that you are using. This may be the hardest part -- figuring out how to get subsets of the larger data set extracted to a suitable table in the spreadsheet.
    2) Plot data series one on the primary axis, data series 2 on the secondary axis: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/ex...679.aspx?CTT=1
    3) Create the tables in the spreadsheet for the 2 "dummy series" that will be used to create the 3rd and 4th axes used to add the extra axis labels as described in the aribitrary axis technique.
    4) Plot the dummy series, then apply the data point labels as described in the aribtrary axis article.
