    Alternative to N/A in chart

I've been working with Doug Robbins' excellent Mail Merge with Charts and although thanks to Doug's help, I have it working, Unfortunately, I have a major problem with the Excel end of things.

I have fairly simple data in the following form

    Date Apr 20 Apr 21 Apr 22
    Grade #N/A #N/A 5.0

for a large number of days. If a report for a particular day is not submitted, #N/A is returned.

Unfortunately 'Mail Merge with Charts' will not work with #N/A in the data.

If I use formula returning blank cells instead, the chart plots the values as 0. As I also need to plot a trendline, I cannot go down the route of changing the y-axis so that the zero values are not seen.

So before, I abandon all hope, is N/A() the only option when looking for Excel to ignore cell values in an xy chart?

    Thanks

Here's a test file. The set up is required as of Merge Tools.

The xy chart is a basic chart, showing the "blank" values plotted as 0.

Doug Robbins Merge Tools with charts just cannot contain any #N/As. The mail merge in Word will not run if the source data in Excel contains #N/A

Hence I'm lookign for an alternative

    Test doc.xlsx

    Thanks!

Hi and welcome to the forum

If you need both NA for the chart and NOT NA for the mail merge, maybe create a 2nd table that uses NA for the chart, and leave the 1st table for the mail merge - with 0's in ot

The notes tell you to use some addin? Do you have a link to the addin?

I could only find a MSGraph version, where the data sheet does not know what #N/A means so is therefore treated as text.

    Try FDibbins' suggestion.
