error bars only have cap or no cap. There are no markers as such.
You could vary the line colour
thanks. I thought about doing it as a boxplot instead but doesnt let me do it. If I do it as a line graph with error bars the error bars do have markers but they overlap so looks very crowded.
Assuming the markers don't acutally belong to the lines, I'd like to see an example of markers on error bars, can you post example?

Judging by the picture those are markers for the line series and nothing to do with error bars.
You can have alternative markers by using multiple line series
it works ok for just one category (fruits) i have done it already but if I want o add more categories in the same graph then it looks messy as error bars overlap. i want to find a way to overcome this issue
I think we are having a terminology confusion.
You mean more series rather than categories. If you use line series then they will all have the same X value for each category,
1(no time spent)
2(less time spent)
3(more time spent)
What you need to do is use xy-scatter rather than lines.
You will need to provide x positions for each of the data points.
Or you could use a different layout for the data points on the secondary axis
