Separate Pivot Table Filter

I recently downloaded a sample Excel file. It had pivot table filters on a separate worksheet from the actual pivot sheet. They said to create a pvt.select. How do you separate the filter from the pivot table, the pivot table filters above the charts?

I believe what you need is a "Slicer". A slicer basically filters a pivot table and can be dragged to any destination on the worksheet.

I know a slicer can be dragged, but the look I want is of the pivot table filter drop downs, like the filter drop downs above the charts. How can I separate the filter from the pivot table, it seems like it can be done.
