Funnel Bubble Chart?

Hi,

I have been asked if it's possible in Excel to create some sort of funnel chart/graphic which is based on a Bubble chart. The idea is that the Bubble chart contains projects, both proposed and in progress and the separate funnel is to display project bubbles tagged as 'Proposed' in the top of the funnel and project bubbles which are "In Progress" would be displayed in the bottom of the funnel (i.e. in the straight piece).

Has anyone any idea how to approach this, or is it possible? Or is there an alternative option which might have a similar concept?[ATTACH]323751

Ya, I'm not overly keen on them but this is being requested so I have to see if it's possible. Plus, I suppose this isn't a traditional funnel in that it's not really for illustrating numeric data, its more a way to display projects that are in either a Proposed phase or an In Progress phase.

There is something similar to what you describe in the Smart Art diagrams.

Otherwise you can create it using bubble chart. Just use appropriate x and y values to position the bubbles.
Because you can not mix a bubble chart with other chart types you will need to store a picture of the funnel in the plot area.
