Occurrences between different time periods

Hi,

The tittle is not very descriptive, but I have no idea what could be proper terminologies. Nevertheless, I think that the file attached is explicit enough.
For example, event B happens between 7/1/13 and 7/2/13, and between 7/1/13 and 7/5/13 as well (in 2 different processes). So it happens in total 2x on 7/1/13 and 7/2/13, and 1x between 7/3/13 and 7/5/13.
I have not found a way using PivotTable to reach the solution that I am looking for (2nd part of the file attached). I think that the problem has to be split into 2 parts:
-create a linear time line with the row labels (i.e 7/1, 7/2, 7/3, 7/7...).
-count the events for a specific date.
For both these parts, I am not even sure that this is possible. Any help would be much appreciated.
