    Unhappy Problem in pivot-table reference

    Hi,

We are facing a problem in Excel 2013. The problem goes like this. We have a pivot-table data in Sheet1 (pivot-table references to A1:B10 cells in Sheet2) of excel and we save the same as Sample.xlsx in D: disk. We take a copy of that and paste it in D:\FolderA\. Then we open the excel and try to see the reference of the pivot table; the reference comes as 'D:\Sample.xlsx\Sheet2!$A$1:$B$10' instead of getting 'Sheet2!$A$1:$B$10'. I wonder why the pivot-table reference points to the old copy. I tried many things to resolve this issue, but nothing helped.

    Please help me on this.

    Thanks in advance.

    Regards,
    Aashik

I can't replicate this on my PC. I suspect that it may have something to do with you saving the file on a network folder. Try saving it first on your local C: drive, then manualy moving it to D:\Folder A\ and see if it still happens. My best guess is that Windows stores the absolute address including the drive because it is a network drive.
My approach to providing help is to help you to help yourself. So my answers won't always solve your problem, but hopefully you can learn enough to solve the problem yourself and be more self sufficient for the experience.

Thanks Mallicat. But I tried the same on local machine also. Still the issue is there. We created three excels totally one using Excel 2013 Preview and other 2 using Excel 2013 professional plus. I am facing this issue only in the excel which was created using Excel 2013 preview. Will version have any consequences on this issue? Is there any step to prevent the machine from storing the absolute address as pivot table reference?

I doubt if the version would be the culprit. More likely something to do with the PC where the version is installed. Have you tried to refresh the links after this happens? one the data menu, click edit links then change source and point to the active workbook. That may work.
