How to do a Stacked Column Waterfall Chart with a Secondary Axis

This is a complicated one...I know how to do a waterfall, I know how to do a stacked column, and I know how to add a secondary axis to a chart BUT, how do I do all 3 in one? Attached is a workbook that contains the pieces that I want to combine.

Tab "Waterfall Template"--This is the waterfall template that I want to use. I currently am using the data I want for this chart but my columns are not yet stacked. Data is in rows 58-65.

Tab "Gross Stacked Column Data"--Contains the data for the "Gross" set of data on the waterfall chart. As you can see, each bar is stacked with 2 categories "Operating NOLs" & "Stock Option NOLs". My waterfall chart is currently displaying the total data but not stacking by category.

Tab "Tax-Effected Stacked Column Dat"--Contains the data for the "Tax-Effected" set of data on the waterfall chart. As you can see, each bar is stacked with 2 categories "Operating NOLs" & "Stock Option NOLs". My waterfall chart is currently displaying the total data but not stacking by category.

Lastly, I want to add a seconday Y-axis on the waterfall chart for the Tax-Effected set of data. As you can see, it is on a different scale than the "Gross" set of data.

Re: How to do a Stacked Column Waterfall Chart with a Secondary Axis

    Hi Eric S.

    Welcome to the forums.

    Try this out.

If you want to stack them, that is fine for the total, but you can't do this for the ups and downs as they may cancel each other out.

I have added a new data series for the up vs a down in your waterfall chart.

Also, I added in your other series and moved it to the second axis in case there are differences in scale.

Finally, I added a line between both so that you can distinguish more easily which goes to which vertical axis.

Please let me know if this works for you.

    Hi Steve,
What if I would still want to stack the ups and downs? What happens is that I have grouped my ups and my downs by categories so I would want to show them stacked. Any help there would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Daniel,

    Welcome to the forums.

Just to be clear, how do you mean grouped?

    Do you mean like this?
