    Area chart and empty cells

    Hi!

I am trying to create a chart and I have selected data that contains empty cells. I have chosen to hide the empty cells and to connect the data points with a line. When I use line chart this works and the line is continuous, but if I change the chart type into area, it breaks into spikes. Do I fail to see some difference between these two chart types or should the area chart be like a line chart but with filling?

I am using 2010 version of the Office.
