How can you get a pivot chart take a list of text and count them and show that on a chart. WHen I highlight the cells I want for the chart it only shows one field and counts all the items as though all the text was the one text.
Thanks

Hello,
Drag the column name of the text field into the values area and set it to "count".How can you get a pivot chart take a list of text and count them and show that on a chart.
This is not clear. A pivot chart does not react if you highlight some cells. What do you mean by "as though all the text was the one text"??WHen I highlight the cells I want for the chart it only shows one field and counts all the items as though all the text was the one text.
Please provide more detail.
regards, LMP
I did try dragging the column title into the value and it is set to count - but it tells me the number of items in the column - it does not break out the different titles in the column and count them.
For example - the title is incidents category and there are 13 items in the column - but I want the different type of incidents to show on the chart with the total count of each incident. There are 4 different incidents and I want to see each of those counted and charted.
Thanks

Please post a sample file. Pivot tables live and breathe with the source data and if it is not set up correctly, you won't get any meaningful data from it.
Here is an example of the pivot chart that is only showing one of the items and not all 3 categories.
Also, without changing the field area how do I get the table and chart to update for new lines in the section.
Thanks

Hello,
click the pivot chart. In the panel on the right, drag the field "Incident Category" from the Legend Fields pane to the Axis Fields (Categories) pane. Now the pie chart will show the three slices.
